Fiesta USA 10
OUR LADY OF THE PILLARS 2010 PATRONAL TOWN FIESTA IN TWENTYNINE PALMS CALIFORNIA
by Cheyene Dy
Celebrating fiesta is a part and parcel of Filipino culture which we inherited from our Spanish colonizers. Like any other municipalities in the Philippines, Cauayan City annually celebrates its patronal fiesta and gathers Cauayenos to a weeklong festivities every October.
Filipinos are scattered all over the world. To my surprise, Cauayan’s Patronal Fiesta is the most anticipated event of the year to the most Cauayenos in North America. They gather once a year to celebrate Our Lady of the Pillar Feast Day and such affair serves as Cauayenos’ annual reunion.
This year’s festivity was held on the 9th of October 2010 in Twentynine Palms, California where it’s been held for the past three years. Father Gerry Vidad, Rossana Panis-Mora, Nora Abogado-Mejia, Maria Lourdes Paggao-Toledo and Lyra Jean Magpantay are some of the organizers who worked hard to make it a grand success. The shindig started in the morning with a mass celebrated by Father Gerry Vidad. The party went on with parlor games and drawing of the prizes while others are busy catching up to their old friends. It was a day full of songs, dances, laughters and fun, fun, fun!
